#BakuBantu Program: Overview of the Realization of Three Projects

by Ilda Karwayu

The realization of three proposals for recipients of the #BakuBantu Program revolving funds will be implemented throughout 2022. At the beginning of this year each group/community strengthened the revision of the project timeline in their proposals. A number of changes in conditions and execution dates of activities are considered for the revision of the timeline. After all revisions were received by the MIWF team, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by each group/community representative.

Rumah Baca Nusa (RBN), with a project proposal for the Lombok Specialty Pastry Business for the Learning of Children’s Literature, started its implementation last February, and is targeted for completion in May 2022. In managing this revolving fund, Hurmayani’s care group is working between the Lombok pastries business and improving the quality of children’s literature learning in Ganti Village, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Although it can no longer be said to be a new idea in Indonesia, it turns out that the above concept is fresh enough to be tried on this Island of 1000 Mosques—because it seems that there has never been such a thing there.

Unlike RBN, Acacia Publishers—represented by Wawan Kurniawan—are working on the publication of Eko Rusdianto’s #MeneropongManusiaSulawesi (#LookingAtThePeopleOfSulawesi) Book and Writing Training. The two focus projects of the independent publisher from Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi are indeed familiar, especially for book workers. However, it is also directly proportional to the classic challenges that book industry workers are also familiar with; namely the consistency and seriousness of the writing training participants, and the target market for the books to be published. The work on this activity has started in February, and—just like the RBN proposal —is targeting completion in May 2022.

Regarding time, the previous two groups/communities were on the same timeline; but not for Babasal Mombasa Community. Titled the Banggai Literature Academy (ASB) Book Publishing, the group/community represented by Lady Diana Khartiono is cooperating with the Banggai Literature Festival in September 2022 as a distribution space for the included books. That is the consideration for the difference in implementation period with the other two groups/communities. In addition, the three-month deadline that has been agreed in the MoU for the #BakuBantu Program has made the community from Luwuk, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi choose to finally start running its project in July, and it is targeted for completion in September 2022.

This is the realization of the three projects from the #BakuBantu Program at a glance. Look out for information about their  development next month, OK!
